For more than a century, Borromeo Hall has played an important role in the daily and spiritual life of the Jesuit community at St. Charles College. Its renovation reimagines the historic building as a comfortable and functional home for today’s Jesuit priests while honoring the architectural character and traditions that have shaped it over generations.

Updated private living quarters will occupy the second floor, providing enlarged rooms, private bathrooms, and greater comfort for residents. The first floor will be transformed into a collection of shared spaces for gathering, worship, work, and daily life, including a kitchen, dining area, library, visitor lounge, sacristy, and office. These spaces are organized to strengthen community connections while providing appropriate areas for privacy, reflection, and hospitality.

Historic windows, original wood finishes, and other character-defining features will be carefully restored whenever possible. Non-original elements will be removed or modified, while new doors, lighting, handrails, and building systems will be thoughtfully integrated to complement the structure’s historic character. The result will balance preservation with modern functionality, accessibility, safety, and comfort.

Through sensitive restoration and purposeful updates, Borromeo Hall will continue to serve as a meaningful home and gathering place for the Jesuit community. The renewed building will honor its history while supporting worship, fellowship, and daily life for generations to come.
